It has been more than six months that I have been using and HTC wildfire android phone and I am simply amazed with this device. There is something new every now and then that I discover. Earlier I used to use a Nokia 5800 phone and in almost all the departments the new once scores heavily over my older Nokia. In between I was also lucky to receive an update on my software platform the famous Froyo update (although they have moved to Gingerbread, I have serious doubts on getting the same update due to hardware constraints). Whereas I am all praise for my new phone but I miss some features which were very basic in nature in Nokia days. They are listed below
1) Voice dialing: Well I’ve tried many apps for getting the voice search feature to work including some network based apps to help call one of my contacts with the hands free, but I have not yet found any such app which can actually do this. (I have tried many like voice actions but they don’t seem to work as long as calling a contact is required). This was something which came built in on my Nokia phones and was very useful for me.
2) Offline Maps: While Google Maps is a very nice app which I have been using since my Nokia days, the absence of the maps without a working data connection hurts many a times. As in case of OVI maps we can still access the already downloaded map. Such feature if provided will largely help users to at least check the available map in the absence of network for any reason.
3) Market: Although the Market is very rich in terms of the apps and is getting populated every second but I would be very happy if I could see the apps that relate to my phone model. It was easy to choose and install apps in the Nokia phones. I very much like the idea of browsing through apps on my computer and selecting to install from there. Since this has started (here), feel great.
4) Contact Management: While I loved the idea of saving contacts into my Google account which helps to create a backup and manage with other android phones, I am still on the lookout to copy my SIM and Phone contacts to my Google account. (In case you have any app please drop the name in comments section)
5) FM Radio: Indian market was once filled with cheap FM radios (China was happy about it). But now we have FM built in on almost all phones irrespective of the cost, color, brand etc. Now the FM quality is very good no doubt about it, but a certain record feature would be very much appreciated (although come may argue it to be a type of piracy, we have many a models which support this function). Also when we have keys to change between the stations it need not scan every time.
I am sure as an avid user of the Google platform phone many would have suggestions and expectations. I just thought of listing them here (If some developer someday has look and helps out may be!!)
Couldn't resist the temptation of commenting on an Android post:)
ReplyDelete1. Voice Dialling - Surprised you're looking for external apps for this as the Android phones usually come with this very helpful feature - http://www.google.com/mobile/voice-actions/ Let me know if you can't find it.
2. Offline Maps - A much requested feature. I hope we get this soon.
3. Market - This is an interesting point, will send the feedback to the team.
4. Contacts - In your contacts screen, hit menu->Import/export and voila, you're done!
5. FM Radio - I feel the record feature, as you rightly suggested will lead to rampant piracy issues and I don't see it coming sometime soon.
Thanks...
ReplyDelete1)I have the voice search app in my phone, it is network dependent and most of the time does not work for me reasons being either low connectivity or noting found.A non network app would rather be of much better help.
4)Unfortunately in my HTC Wildfire I only have the option of exporting to SD card and not Google account.
Regarding the contacts try this:
ReplyDeleteGo to HTC People
Press Menu
Select Import / Export
Select Export to SD Card
Select SIM
Select OK
Whilst still in HTC People
Press Menu
Select Import/Export
Select Import From SD Card
Select Google
Select Import All vCard Files
Or else:
Export sim card numbers to a .csv using your previous phone's software. And then import this to your Google account which should sync it with your phone book (based on your Google account).
thanks it helped.
